The tests and evidence that help distinguish a belt, oil-pressure, injector, turbo, compression or complete engine failure.

The best engine quote begins with evidence. Replacing a complete engine before confirming the failure can waste money; fitting only a sensor or turbo without finding the root cause can be equally expensive.

Useful diagnostic evidence

Diagnosis after a wet-belt warning

Checking only the belt visible through an opening is not the same as inspecting the full timing and lubrication system. Ask whether the oil-pump belt, sump, pickup, pressure, filter and turbo were assessed.

Provide the original sequence

The order of events is valuable: warning first, then noise; smoke before power loss; oil pressure after recent servicing; engine stopped at speed; or non-start after standing. Do not tidy the story into a guess — give the exact sequence.

Send the registration, postcode and symptoms. A clear first message makes it much easier to identify the right repair, rebuild or replacement route.
